The Associated Press announced on Tuesday that it has named LVFL and Seattle Storm forward Jordan Horston to its WNBA All-Rookie Team.
Horston, who starred at Tennessee from 2019-23 and was the No. 9 overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft by the Storm, was one of five players chosen to the squad. The official WNBA awards will be announced later in September.
The two-time All-SEC First Team recipient and two-time AP and WBCA All-America Honorable Mention choice is the seventh Lady Vol to be named to a WNBA All-Rookie Team. She follows official WNBA honorees Diamond DeShields (2018), Glory Johnson (2012), Candace Parker (2008), Nicky Anosike (2008), Tamika Catchings (2002) and Chamique Holdsclaw (1999).
Starting 17 times and appearing in 36 contests in her first professional season, Horston averaged 6.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.6 blocks, becoming one of 11 players in the WNBA to post those numbers or better this year (seven of whom played in the 2023 All-Star Game), and the only one in the group to start fewer than 20 games. Those numbers also make her one of just 13 players in league history to post those numbers or better through their first 36 career games and only the seventh to do so since 2000.
Horston scored in double-digits nine times this season, including a season-high 23 points in Atlanta on July 12 with her former Lady Vol coaches and teammates in the stands. She also had five games with 10 or more rebounds, including a season-best 14 to go along with 13 points on June 13 at Phoenix for her first professional double-double.
The Columbus, Ohio, native’s pick at the No. 9 spot in the 2023 WNBA Draft marked the third player of the Kellie Harper era to be taken in the first round. Prior to Horston, Rae Burrell went to Los Angeles with the No. 9 pick in 2022, while Rennia Davis was chosen by Minnesota, also at No. 9, in 2021.
