Tennessee defeated Cincinnati on Wednesday, winning its home opener by a score of 7-1 and improving to 6-1 on the season.
The team also received some bad news today, however, learning that pitcher Kyle Serrano is likely done for the season with a separated shoulder ligament.
“We got word last night, we got the results back, and it looks like we are going to lose Kyle for the season,” Dave Serrano said on Wednesday.
“There’s a pretty good chance he’s going to have to have surgery. We’re going to have a reevaluation on Monday, but unfortunately for him, unfortunately for this team — but his career is hot over here at Tennessee. He’ll come back and be at full strength next year.”
“It’s not a torn ligament,” Serrano added. “It’s not torn. We are going to get it reevaluated on Monday. It is the ligament but it’s not torn. I know that for a fact. But if he does have surgery it probably will be Tommy John but it’s not a torn ligament, it’s pulled away from the bone.”
“It’s part of life and he’s handled it really well.”
