Tyson Helton leaving Tennessee for Western Kentucky

Tennessee will be looking for a new offensive coordinator as Tyson Helton will be named the head coach at Western Kentucky, per multiple reports.

Helton coached at Western Kentucky for two years under then head coach Jeff Brohm from 2014-15, where he served the role as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Before leaving for Tennessee, he spent two years on the staff at USC.

According to Brent Hubbs and Austin Price, “Helton is not on the road recruiting with Tennessee and has been in deep talks with WKU officials the last several days. An official announcement is expected to happen in the next 24-48 hours.”

Helton, 41, initially signed a three-year deal with Tennessee. He was making $1.2 million per year.

FootballScoop.com first reported Helton was out late Saturday night.

Jeremy Pruitt responded to early rumors that Helton had been “fired” by telling Jimmy Hyams“It’s not true and it’s not going to happen.”
