Tennessee junior offensive lineman Trey Smith, who recently announced that he’s returning to Tennessee for his senior season, was named to the 2019-20 College Football All-Bowl Team by ESPN.
OL: Trey Smith, Tennessee: The left guard had a stout performance in the Vols’ Gator Bowl win over Indiana, including a key block to spring Eric Gray’s game-winning, 16-yard touchdown run.
Other offensive players selected were from the Southeastern Conference were: QB Joe Burrow, LSU; WR Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase, LSU; WR George Pickens, UGA; WR Jerry Jeudy, Alabama; OL Saahdiq Charles, LSU; AP Lynn Bowden Jr., KY.
Smith started the last 11 games at guard for the Vols and was named 2019 All-SEC First Team by the AP and Coaches.
If a waiver is approved for next season, Smith could be playing next to transfer Cade Mays, whom he’s wanted to play alongside for a long time.
“I really want to play with Cade,” Smith said on The Nation this week. “It’s something I’ve been thinking about since high school, honestly, I was a little disappointed when he didn’t come here, but he made the ultimate decision for himself at that time.”
“It’s really exciting times. If he plays next to me, man, we’re going to maul the hell out of some people, man. I can’t wait.”
