Tennessee junior offensive lineman Trey Smith will receive the inaugural Fritz Pollard Trophy.
The Fritz Pollard Trophy is awarded to a college player who has exemplified extraordinary courage, community values, and exceptional performance on the field. The award will be presented on January 30th at the 15th annual Johnnie L. Cochran Jr. Salute to Excellence Awards.
Earlier this month, the 6-6, 325-pound junior announced that he will return to Tennessee for his senior season instead of entering the NFL Draft.
Smith played in all 13 games for Tennessee last season on a limited practice schedule and was named All-SEC First Team (AP and Coaches) while battling a medical condition.
