Justin Coleman recorded his first interception, while Cordarrelle Patterson registered a 100-yard receiving effort to highlight the ninth week of NFL play for former Tennessee Volunteers.
Coleman picked a key time to come up with his first pick of the season, halting Houston’s first drive of the second half as the Dolphins clung to a 17-6 lead. The Miami side held the Texans to only three second half points, and 199 yards passing.
Patterson also came through in the clutch, securing a 64 yard catch-and-run from Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan on the first play of the final drive of the game. His speed put Atlanta at the New Orleans 11, allowing the Falcons to wear down the clock and hit the game winning field goal as time expired for a 27-25 victory.
Patterson finished with 126 yards receiving. It was the second time in his career passing the century mark in receiving yards and the first since his rookie season in 2013 where he had 141 as a Viking against Baltimore.
The game featured five Vols (Patterson, Dustin Colquitt, Alvin Kamara, Marquez Callaway, Shy Tuttle) with another two on the Saints’ practice squad (Bryce Thompson, Ethan Wolf).
Kamara posted 104 yards of total offense (50 rushing, 54 receiving) and had a touchdown on the ground. Callaway nabbed a score himself, coming from quarterback Trevor Siemian in his first start of the season.
Defensive tackle Kahlil McKenzie was called up to the active roster for Baltimore in their overtime win over Minnesota at home. It was his second game with the Ravens after making two tackles in week three against Detroit.
