Tennessee Athletics is set to host its inaugural Champions Weekend in conjunction with the home football game against Kentucky on Oct. 29. That weekend, teams and individuals who won SEC and/or NCAA championships during specific years are invited back to Rocky Top to celebrate their achievements.
Each of Tennessee’s SEC and NCAA champions from the 2021-22 academic year will be recognized, as Champions Weekend will annually welcome back the previous year’s title winners.
This year’s celebration includes all championship winners—both team and individual/relay—from the following calendar years:
- 2012 – 10-year celebration
- 2002 – 20-year celebration
- 1997 – 25-year celebration
- 1992 – 30-year celebration
- 1982 – 40-year celebration
- 1972 – 50-year celebration
Among the groups invited back this year are the 1972 NCAA Champion men’s cross country team, the 1997 NCAA Champion women’s basketball team, the 1997 SEC Champion football team, the 2002 NCAA Indoor Champion men’s track & field team and the 1982 SEC Champion volleyball team—along with several others.
A complete list of 2022 Champions Weekend honorees can be found below. Those in attendance will be recognized on the field at Neyland Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 29.
Champions from the years set to be celebrated this October (noted above) are encouraged to contact Director of Letterwinner Relations Steve Hamer at shamer1@utk.edu for additional details on the weekend schedule, hotel blocks and complimentary football game tickets. Save-the-dates have been sent to those whose contact information is on file, and RSVPs are required.
