Vols Climb in Rankings Following UTSA Win

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee football climbed in both the Associated Press Top 25 and AFCA Coaches Poll on Sunday following a dominating 45-14 victory over UTSA.

The Vols (3-1, 0-1 SEC) returned inside the top 20 to No. 19 in the Coaches poll, while jumping two spots to No. 21 in the Associated Press Top 25.

It marks the 20th consecutive week that Tennessee has appeared in the AP poll dating back to Sept. 6 last season. The Vols have been ranked in the top 20 of the Coaches poll for 19 straight weeks.

Tennessee piled up 512 total yards and averaged 9.18 yards per carry as a team against the Roadrunners. The two best rushing yards per carry marks by the Vols in the last decade have occurred under Josh Heupel‘s watch. UT rushed for a school-record 11.68 yards per carry vs. Vanderbilt last season in addition to Saturday’s performance vs. UTSA.

The Vols take on South Carolina (2-2, 1-1) in their SEC home opener at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday in Neyland Stadium. The contest will be televised by SEC Network with Tom Hart (play-by-play), Jordan Rodgers (analyst) and Cole Cubelic (analyst/reporter) on the call.

The game is sold out, pushing Neyland Stadium’s consecutive sellout mark to nine.
