Vols in the NFL – Week 6

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Week 6 of the 2023 NFL season was highlighted by former Tennessee Vols Joshua Palmer, Jalin Hyatt, Alvin Kamara and Byron Young making an impact for their respective teams.

A pair of former Vol receivers had productive performances in primetime this week, beginning with 2022 Biletnikoff winner Jalin Hyatt posting a season-high three catches for 21 yards on Sunday Night Football for the New York Giants. Joshua Palmer saw action during Monday Night Football for the Los Angeles Chargers, reeling in a season-high four receptions for 60 yards against the Dallas Cowboys.

Also at wide receiver, Velus Jones Jr. racked up 110 all-purpose yards for the Chicago Bears, tallying 15 rushing yards, one catch for five yards and three kickoff returns for 90 yards.

New Orleans Saints star Alvin Kamra continued making an impact at running back in his third game of the season, finishing his day with 19 carries for 68 yards and seven catches for a season-high 36 yards. The five-time Pro Bowler now leads the Saints franchise with 9,831 all-purpose yards.

On defense, Los Angeles Rams rookie Byron Young caused havoc in a win over the Arizona Cardinals. Young tallied a sack, six tackles, two quarterback hits, and forced a fumble in the Rams’ 26-9 victory.

According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), Young was the second-highest rated NFL rookie during Week 6 (min. 25 snaps) with a rating of 87.3. He is one of six nominees for the Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week award.

Cornerbacks Alontae Taylor and Cameron Suttton each logged multiple tackles on Sunday. For the Saints, Taylor tallied three tackles while Sutton added four tackles and a pass breakup for the Detroit Lions.

Matthew Butler – Raiders – DT

Executed nine successful snaps for the Titans against the Ravens.

Joshua Dobbs – Cardinals – QB

Completed 21 of 41 passes for 235 yards during the Cardinals 9-26 loss against the Rams.

Princeton Fant – Cowboys -TE

On practice squad.

Hendon Hooker – Lions – QB

Did not play due to injury.

Jalin Hyatt – Giants – WR

Caught a career-high three receptions for 21 yards against the Bills.

Theo Jackson – Vikings – DB

Played 18 snaps on special teams along with three defensive snaps and made one tackle during the Vikings win against the Bears. 

Jauan Jennings – 49ers – WR

Tied his season-high two catches for 26 yards during the 49ers game against the Browns. 

Alexander Johnson – Dolphins – LB

On practice squad.

Jakob Johnson – Raiders – FB

Started his third game of the season at fullback and executed 17 offensive snaps and 10 special team snaps during the Raiders win over the Patriots.

Velus Jones Jr. – Bears – WR

Played a versatile game, rushing for 15 yards, making one catch for five yards and returning three kickoffs for 90 yards on special teams.

Alvin Kamara – Saints – RB

Started his third consecutive game at running back, had 19 carries for 68 yards and seven catches for 36 yards during the Saints’ contest against the Texans.

Cade Mays – Panthers – OL

Tallied his second start of the season at left guard and recorded 69 snaps.

Emmanuel Moseley – Lions – CB

Placed on injured reserve Oct. 14.

Joshua Palmer – Chargers – WR

Notched a season-high four catches for 60 yards during the Chargers’ Monday night game against the Cowboys.

Cordarrelle Patterson – Falcons – RB

Notched one catch for six yards while playing 10 offensive snaps against the Commanders. 

Kyle Phillips – Saints – DE

Did not see action vs. Texans.

Jalen Reeves-Maybin – Lions – LB

Played 19 snaps on special teams during the Lions’ win over the Buccaneers.

Trey Smith – Chiefs – OL

Started at right guard and played 71 snaps in the Chiefs’ Thursday night win vs. the Broncos.

Cameron Sutton – Lions – CB

Started and played 56 snaps at cornerback while posting four total tackles in the Lions’ win over the Buccaneers.

Alontae Taylor – Saints – CB

Recorded three tackles in the Saints’ game against the Texans.

Darrell Taylor – Seahawks – DE

Played 24 defensive snaps and three special teams snaps while making one tackle for the Seahawks.

Cedric Tillman – Browns – WR

Did not see action for the Browns.

Shy Tuttle – Panthers – DL

Started at nose tackle, had three tackles and three pass breakups in the Panthers’ game vs. the Dolphins.

Kendal Vickers – Bills – DE

On practice squad.

Darnell Wright – Bears – OL

Started at right tackle and played 66 snaps during the Bears’ game vs. the Vikings.

Byron Young – Rams – DE 

Started at defensive end and was a big factor in the Rams’ win over the Cardinals. Recorded a sack, six tackles, two quarterback hits, and forced a fumble.
