Zolman Making Her Point at Point Guard

by LadyinOrange

She’s back!

With seven three-point shots and a career high-matching 28 points, Shanna Zolman appeared to shake off the slump that has had Pat Summitt, Lady Vol fans, and Shanna, herself, baffled.

Zolman, who has the purest shot in women’s basketball, shot the lights out against Alabama, turning back a determined Tide and renewing hope that Tennessee might just still make a run for the national championship, even without injured point-guard, Alexis Hornbuckle.

Today’s game revealed a team that seemed to have been on hiatus for the last three games. There would be no three-point margin at the conclusion of this matchup with Nicky Anosike adding 14 points for the Lady Vols, Candace Parker and Tye’sha Fluker netting 12 points apiece and Sidney Spencer finishing with 11. Parker made only 3-of-11 shots but she and Anosike had eight rebounds apiece.

“Right now, I’m enjoying playing the point,” said Zolman, who made the switch after Alexis Hornbuckle was sidelined with a broken wrist a week earlier. “I just enjoy being able to have the ball in my hands and being able to direct what we’re doing.”

With today’s performance, Lady Vol fans would probably agree that Shanna made her point and made it well.
