Tennessee looked to have found some momentum on Saturday when they shut out the TIgers 9-0. That carried through about six innings of Sundays matchup when the wheels came off.
Starting pitcher Josh Lindbloom pitched six innings only allowing two hits and no runs. Tennessee led 2-0 in the top of the seventh win a runner on when Delmonico made the call to the bullpen.
Sean Watson came on in relief with a runner on and nobody out but gave up two two-run homeruns and suddenly LSU led 4-2. That was enough to win the game as LSU went on to win 6-2 and take the series two games to one.
The Volunteers are now 19-13 (3-8 SEC) this season and at the bottom of the SEC Eastern Division standings. They have a midweek game on Wednesday with UNC Ashville and then host a weekend series with the Florida Gators.
Tennessee just hasn’t been able to put it together so far this season. I got the feeling that once LSU took the lead, that wiped out any confidence that this mentally fragile team had built.
Interestingly this was the first game that Tennessee has lost this season when leading after six innings.
Arencibia, Frazier, and Rivera each had two hits for the Vols.
