SEC Media Days

Guess who Tom Ensy of the Montgomery Advisor is picking to win the SEC East?

SEC EAST

1. Tennessee — The Vols had a lousy year last year. But the defense was still second in the SEC against the run and the only really grim defensive performance was against Vanderbilt, after futility had set in. The offense floundered last year as neither Rick Clausen nor Erik Ainge really took command at QB. This, among other things, brought the return of offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe, after an abortive head coaching tenure at Ole Miss. The big question is whether Cutcliffe can turn Ainge into the quarterback he promised to be two years ago as a freshman. The Vols are at home against Florida, LSU and Alabama. Road trips to Georgia and Arkansas are dangerous, and coach Phil Fulmer seems to have a complex about Steve Spurrier, whose South Carolina team welcomes the Vols on Oct. 28.
