Starting Center Michael Frogg

Walk-on senior Michael Frogg will be the starting center for the University of Tennessee to open the 2006 season. He beat out redshirt freshman Josh McNeil who was considered by many to be the top center in the country coming out of high school in the 2005 class.

From UTSPORTS:
“I thought a number of people established themselves,” Fulmer said of his reviews of the game videotapes. “Michael Frogg has won the starting center job for the Cal game and I’m really proud of him.”

Fulmer mentioned that Josh McNeil will also get playing time at the center position.

Frogg is listed at 6’4” 300 pounds. He is a local kid who attended Roane County High School in Kingston. He was a walk-on who just recently was awarded a scholarship by Coach Fulmer.

Michael does have some limited game experience as a Volunteer. In 2004, he played in the opener against UNLV and then again against South Carolina. Last season he played in both the Mississippi and Kentucky games.

I think Michael Frogg is a great example of a local kid who had a dream to play for Tennessee. Through hard work, he has been able to accomplish that goal and earn not only a scholarship, but a starting job. I look forward to seeing a positive contribution from him on Saturdays.
