Bo Hardegree to give up football

Bo HardegreeIt’s been reported this week that effective immediately Vols reserve quarterback Bo Hardegree has decided to give up football and join the Tennessee tennis team.

They could have used his help today. I noticed the Vols tennis team lost to #2 Ohio State 4-0.

Bo was an all-state quarterback at Jackson Central-Merry High School but was not highly rated by any of the recruiting services. His senior year he threw for 23 touchdowns and ran for 3 more leading his team to the third round state playoffs in Class 5A. He made some progress during his tenure at Tennessee but was never rated higher than third string on the depth chart.

Hardegree and Daniel Brooks were teammates at Jackson Central-Merry and came to Tennessee as part of the Vols 2003 signing class. If you remember, Brooks was kicked off the team for being involved in multiple altercations on campus, culminating in a fight with former Vols basketball player Andre Patterson in October of 2005. Despite being a prep All-American coming out of high school, Brooks only managed 11 tackles in two seasons at Tennessee.

Bo Hardegree was a member of the 2003 SEC Academic Honor Roll.

You can discuss Bo Hardegree leaving in our Tennessee Vols Forum.

Junior defensive lineman Jared Hostetter is another Vol that will not be with the team next season. He has also decided to give up football.
