The Tennessee Vols baseball team won their home opener today over Eastern Michigan by score of 7-4. Craig Cobb pitched 8 innings and struck out a career high 9 batters in the win. Third baseman Cody Brown had two hits including a solo home run in the 8th inning.
Zane Stone came in to close out the game in the top of the 9th but was unable to get the job done, giving up three runs. Freshman Nick Hernandez recorded the final out for the Vols to earn the save.
Hats off to all the fans who attended the game this afternoon. It was quite cold and most of the fans in attendance today were “hardcore” as my buddy put it. I even saw Athletic Director Mike Hamilton and Sports Information Director Bud Ford hanging around Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
I do have to question the scheduling though. Tomorrow’s game is scheduled for noon, just an hour before the basketball team tips off against Vanderbilt at TBA. It would have been nice for them play again at 3:00 tomorrow so that us “hardcore” fans could catch both games.
