The Knoxville News Sentinel is reporting that Bernard King will be honored Tuesday night during the Vols basketball game against Kentucky. Plans for the event are still in progress and the University is hopeful that he will be in attendance. The keyword being “hopeful” since King has evidently never been back on campus, for whatever reason, since he left in 1977.
Bernard King averaged over 25 points per game in his career at Tennessee and was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2007 back in December.
Arguably the best basketball player ever in the SEC, King was named “Player of the Year” all three years he played for the University of Tennessee. The three-time All American has the highest scoring average in University of Tennessee history and was the seventh overall pick by the New Jersey Nets in the 1977 NBA draft.
Did you know? King appeared in the 1979 comedy, Fastbreak, and played Matt Ferguson on Miami Vice.
