Buzz Peterson

I don’t know if any of you read Jimmy Hyams article (subscription) yesterday or not but I found it interesting.

I didn’t realize Buzz Peterson had ownership in the Texas Roadhouse at Turkey Creek. It’s ironic that is where Bob Kessling and Bruce Pearl meet for Vol Calls every Monday evening. Think Buzz picks up their tab?

I also thought it was interesting that Peterson’s recruiting seemed to be based on “what he was told”. He was told that Chris Lofton was a good shooter. He recruited Dane Bradshaw over Lee Humphrey because he was told he needed more winners on the team. Buzz even says that not even Jeff Lebo wanted Humphrey. Why didn’t he just say so? If Jeff Lebo didn’t even want him, now I understand.

As you remember, Peterson was fired at Tennessee after the 2004-2005 season. He never won more than 17 games at Tennesse and never made the NCAA Tournament. Buzz was 20-10 in his first season at Coastal Carolina but followed that up with a 15-15 record this past season.

No Peterson article would be complete without mentioning who his roommate was in college. Do you have a guess? Anyone? I’ll give you a hint, it was at North Carolina. Come one, you know, he went on to play for the Bulls…..
