Lofton Missing from Wooden Team

lofton·Chris Lofton made the list of 22 finalists for the Wooden Award All-American team but found out yesterday that he did not make the final list of 10 as voted on by the panel of 1000 so called experts. The public thought a bit more highly of Chris. He managed to win the fan vote for Wooden Player of the Year .

·In the morning talk radio scene you had the normal men’s versus women’s basketball discussions that seem to be so prevalent lately. For whatever reason, Mickey Dearstone feels the need to be the spokesperson that constantly defends women’s athletics to all takers. It’s embarrassing to me that we continue to have discussions comparing the salaries of Bruce Pearl and Pat Summitt.

·Another morning show brought up an interesting question. Who wins a national championship first: our football team or men’s basketball team? Would you have ever, in your wildest dreams, envisioned we could be having such conversations? Not to mention, the basketball team would probably win the vote. It says a lot about the job Pearl has done in two years but says just as much about the public perception of where our football program is right now.

·Mel Kiper has Robert Meachem and Justin Harrell both going in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft. Kiper projects them at picks 22 and 32 respectively.
