Tony Jones, Tennessee basketball associate head coach, will be interviewing for the open head coaching job at Marshall later today.
Tony is a long time assistant of Bruce Pearl. The two coached together at Wisconsin Milwaukee from 2001 until 2005. When Pearl took the job at Tennessee in 2005 he brought Jones with him to Knoxville.
His responsibilities currently include scheduling and recruiting. Jones was considered instrumental in helping to land the Vols highly touted recruiting class last year.
I think it’s a double edged sword for most Vol fans, at least it is for me. I want Tony Jones to do well and I think he deserves a head coaching shot someday. I’m just not sure I want that day to come so soon. I’ll always be a Tony Jones supporter, regardless of what happens.
Pete Gillian and Mike Jarvis are other names being mentioned as possible candidates. Both of them have significant head coaching experience.
