We're Going To Disney World!

The Tennessee Volunteers basketball team will play in a Disney tournament during the 2008-2009 season.

KNOXVILLE — The 2008-09 schedule for the Tennessee men’s basketball team will feature a Thanksgiving weekend trip to the Old Spice Classic in Orlando, Fla.

Joining the Volunteers in the eight-team field are Gonzaga, Maryland, Memphis, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, Siena and Wichita State. The tournament guarantees each team three games. It will be held at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex and televised by ESPN2 and ESPNU.

Bruce Pearl didn’t waste any time with quality scheduling when he arrived in Knoxville and he is definitely continuing that trend. I don’t know which is more amazing – the fact that Pearl has been able to schedule top quality teams at Tennessee or that his teams have been able to compete in those games.

The Vols have already played Memphis and Oklahoma State under Pearl’s tenure but I would like to see a rematch with Wichita State, the team that ousted us from the NCAA Tournament last season.

  1. The field looks a lot better than the teams that were in it this past season. The best teams were West Virginia, Arkansas, and S. Illinois. I wish it were this coming season though, when I will still be nearby in Gainesville.

  2. I’m with you. When I first heard the news, I thought it was for this upcoming season.
