VOLSCARS

volscars

On Tuesday, the Tennessee Athletic Department held the first annual VOLSCARS at the Knoxville Convention Center. The awards, modeled after the ESPYs, were to honor the individual and team accomplishments of both the women’s and men’s athletic departments.

So who were the familiar faces walking down the orange carpet? Well, in my mind, nothing could beat the wardrobe of Sidney Spencer and Vladamir Richard (above) but here are a few of the awards that were given out:

  • Best Comeback: Football team overcame injuries and turnovers against Alabama to win in fourth quarter
  • Big Orange Award (Male): Dane Bradshaw
  • Best TV Moment: Men’s basketball beating Florida
  • Volunteer Coach of the Year: Bruce Pearl (was there any doubt?)
  • Male VOLSCARS MVP: Chris Lofton

Overall, I thought the awards were pretty fair with the exception of Tony Delmonico winning the Male Rookie of the Year over Wayne Chism and Ramar Smith.

I also thought Mr. Tennessee could have gone to Dane Bradshaw. Why not? He’s everywhere. I’ve heard him at least once on every sports talk show in town in the last couple weeks. I guess two awards on the night might have been a bit much.
