In a Rivals article today Chris Walker was asked, if he could do one thing on the field while he is at Tennessee what would it be? His answer:
“Probably knock Tim Tebow out. That’s my goal because everyone is in awe of him and it’s Tim Tebow this and Tim Tebow that. I just want that shot.”
Sweet! Right? Well not according to everyone. Granted, it’s probably not the standard answer that you would expect, but how many of us wish we could knock out Tim Tebow? I know the thought popped into my mind several times last season. Of course, I willingly admit that I couldn’t do it. I don’t think Tebow would even break stride in a collision that would probably end my life. But if Chris Walker could do it for me, that would be the next best thing.
So what’s the big deal? He’s an 18 year old kid (I’m guessing) who doesn’t walk around with a media relations person with him at all times. He’s sharing with us, his Tennessee family, his feelings about some things he would like to accomplish. Would you rather hear the textbook answers that we get from most of the other players and the coaches on the hill?
What if he said he hated Alabama with all of his heart and soul? We all hope he feels that way – like we do. Would we criticize him for that too? Too much bulletin board material?
Which brings me to my next point. Are we really worried about bulletin board material from a freshman, in April. So what? In fact, I think we need to start giving teams some bulletin board material. We need to regain our swagger. Maybe we need to be a little tougher in what we say AND how we play and quit worrying about how it might sound. Then maybe we can get back winning the games that we all expect to win every year.
Chris Walker, here’s to you Mr. Quarterback Knocker Outer.
