Philip Jurick is all Vol

philipjurick9_4150.JPGSeveral sources are reporting that East Ridge star Philip Jurick will commit to Tennessee on Wednesday. Jurick is scheduled to be in Knoxville for an unofficial visit tomorrow and word is that he will give his commitment to Bruce Pearl and the Vols.

He is listed and 6-10, 250 pounds and is one of the most highly rated prospects in the state of Tennessee in the class of 2008. According to Rivals, he is a four star player ranked 35th on their top 150 players in the nation. Scout also rates him as four stars.

As a junior, he averaged 16 points, 15 rebounds and 9 blocked shots per game. He had recently narrowed his choices down to Tennessee and Indiana, eliminating Kentucky and Florida. Kentucky was thought to be the primary competition for Jurick before the departure of Tubby Smith.

Bruce Pearl desperately wanted to keep Jurick in state and visited him several times at East Ridge. Pearl saw him play in the school’s first ever state sectional this past season. The Pioneers lost in overtime but Jurick scored 15 points, the game high.
