The Chiefs fans seem to be excited about their new rookie lineman, Claude “Turk” McBride as they call him. Along side DeMarcus “Tank” Tyler, the newly drafted duo is named the TNT Connection by some Kansas City fans.
KC is putting a lot of faith in McBride, using their 54th overall pick. In addition, they got rid of two of their former starting lineman. Defensive end Eric Hicks, who had started 104 games since making the squad in 1998, was released on Tuesday. The Chiefs traded Ryan Sims, the 6th overall pick in the 2002 NFL Draft, to Tampa Bay for an undisclosed draft choice.
The expectations are high for McBride and there is some thought that he could be in the starting lineup to open the season. Starting defensive end Jared Allen is suspended for the first four games of the year for multiple DUI’s. Not only does Allen have off the field problems but he is reportedly not completely happy in Kansas City and has asked to be traded.
Turk is a bit of a tweener. He played a lot of tackle while he was at Tennessee. However, after running a 4.8 forty at the combine, many believe that McBride has the physical tools to be a long term solution at DE for the Chiefs. At worst, he should see some time at tackle – possibly in third down situations.
Overall, I think Kansas City is a great situation for Turk McBride.

I’v known Turk since pee wee football he will make an excellent addition to any team he plays for. Kansas City was lucky to see his talents early in his career.
