On Tuesday, Tennessee held their final major scrimmage of the pre-season. All that remains at this point will be a kicking scrimmage on Saturday morning. Here are a few notes and thoughts from Tuesday night.
-As most of you have probably heard by now, it turned out that freshman Ben Martin did NOT tear his ACL and will only be out a few weeks with a “bone bruise”.
–Brad Cottam left the scrimmage with an injury to his left wrist. I wonder if this is a new injury or could it have contributed to some of the drops we’ve seen from him.
-Speaking of drops, that is still a major concern with our receivers. After watching the scrimmage on Saturday, I had hoped that maybe the drops were merely a result of jitters. That doesn’t seem to be the case.
-Based starting lineups from Tuesday, it appears that true freshman Eric Berry will get the starting nod at corner, Jarod Parrish will hold onto his job at safety and Chris Scott will be the first choice at guard over McClendon who has an ankle issue.
-I was shocked to read that Daniel Lincoln made 6 of 7 kicks yesterday. He really struggled in the last scrimmage so this could be a very good sign for him.
-I was even more shocked to hear that Fulmer was quoting as saying that Eric Berry and Ben Martin will be All-Americans before they leave here.
-I know Dennis Rogan has been impressive fielding punts. From the looks of his stat line, that’s not all he is doing. Along with fielding punts and kicks, on Tuesday Rogan had an interception (41 yards) and a forced fumble.
-Elsewhere in the blogoshpere, Brandon at CocknFire previewed the Tennessee and South Carolina matchup. Guess who he picked? I’ll give you a hint. Their coach wears a visor.
