The Duke, errr Tennessee Report

fulmer.jpgAs speculation over the possibilities for Tennessee’s next offensive coordinator runs rampant, the powers that be on the hill aren’t talking. I don’t expect them to release anything about potential new hirings but I surely would like to know which coaches are no longer going to be with the team after the bowl game. The current count stands at 4 coaching vacancies but the rumor mill leaves the possibility that we could see more.

Yesterday, we received confirmation (from a couple of Tennessee prospects who had been told by our staff) that Matt Luke and Kurt Roper are headed to Duke with David Cutcliffe and will not return next season. This isn’t any big surprise, as even Knoxville’s most conservative media persons have admitted this was all but a done deal. However, to have this information come out from a couple of potential Tennessee recruits really bothers me.

I would prefer to hear information like this from the school. Maybe our readers can help me understand what I’m missing here.

Bowl Practice

The news from practice in Tampa yesterday was……. Duke. There were representatives from the Blue Devils attending practice yesterday: their AD, SID, and members of the strength and conditioning staff, just to name a few.

Is it not bad enough that our offense is being prepared mostly by coaches who are likely looking to their next job? I’m not trying to throw these guys under the bus, but think about it. If you were in their position do you honestly believe you could stay focused on your current job? They are each getting promotions with more money and more responsibility. Not to mention the personal tasks that lie ahead such as finding a new home, moving, getting kids enrolled in new schools, etc, etc, etc.

Let’s just hope that the guys from Orange and Blue Hue are wrong in their bowl predictions. Go Vols!
