Bruce Warwick

Do you know who Bruce Warwick is? Honestly? Well, apparently you should. Warwick’s official title at Tennessee is Assistant AD of Football Operations, but that’s about all the information I could find from the University’s website. It doesn’t even begin to describe the respect that Warwick seems to have on the hill and around the country.

The A&M Connection: Current Texas A&M head coach Mike Sherman understands just what Bruce Warwick brings to the table. The two worked together for six seasons for the Green Bay Packers where Warwick was an assistant to the general manager and director of football administration. In fact, just recently, Warwick recently had a lucrative offer to join Sherman on the A&M staff. The deal was said to be for 3-years and worth somewhere in the neighborhood of about $150,000. Word is that Tennessee has since worked out a multi-year deal that was enough to keep Bruce Warwick in Knoxville.

The Duke Connection: I’m not certain of the exact time table of these events but Warwick played a role in helping David Cutcliffe land the Duke job. Bruce spent a year at Duke and told them in no uncertain terms that he believed Cutcliffe would be a great fit.

“He’s got experience. He’s got a plan. He could go in and shake things up,” Warwick said. “He’s a phenomenal motivator – one of the best I’ve been around.”

“Duke needs a strong personality and a strong leader,” Warwick said. “He’s as good as they come. He’s recruited North Carolina. The Clemson Connection: It’s also believed that he had his hand in convincing Fulmer to bring in Rob Spence to interview for Tennessee’s offensive coordinator position. Warwick worked with Spence when they were both at Maryland from 1992-1993.

It doesn’t appear that things are going to work out with Spence but it’s apparent that Warwick is at worst 1 for 2 on his recommendations. At the very least, I believe it shows that Fulmer has a great deal of respect for Bruce and is strongly considering his advice.

The question that remains at this point is who else can we link to Bruce Warwick that may be qualified to be Tennessee’s next offensive coordinator.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
