Here are a few notes from Saturday’s scrimmage:
- Jonathan Crompton threw for nearly 150 yards in the scrimmage but more importantly, had only one interception and managed the offense well according to Fulmer. However, Fulmer also added that “the defense got its hands on too many balls”.
- Gerald Jones grabbed seven catches for 55 yards including a 19 yard touchdown from Nick Stevens. Jones also returned a blocked punt 25 yards for a touchdown.
- Quinton Hancock finished with 7 catches for 51 yards. One of which was a 6 yard touchdown.
- Arian Foster, Lennon Creer and Taruen Poole combined for 134 yards on 30 carries. While Foster was limited with only seven carries, Creer had 10-47 and a touchdown (4 yards), and Poole was 17-45 in what Fulmer called “his best day as a running back at Tennessee.
- On defense, Savion Frazier led the team with 13 tackles. Rico McCoy tallied 7 tackles and an interception that he returned 53 yards.

Student tickets. The debate continues to rage over the recent news that for the first time, University of Tennessee students will now have to pay for their football tickets. This increase in revenue is supposed to help offset a projected $3,000,000 deficit in the athletic department’s budget. It’s been brought to my attention that this could be somehow related to the cancellation of the AAFL season and the guaranteed money that was coming to Tennessee for the lease of Neyland Stadium. I’m not sure if that’s true, but it could make sense if t that revenue was included in budget planning. Is it a coincidence that the lease with the AAFL was for $3,000,000?
Baseball Vols. Tennessee split a doubleheader with Alabama on Saturday. The Vols lost the first game 11-10 but rebounded with a 12-5 win in the second game. The “rubber match” will be Sunday at 2pm.
