Cottam and Ainge selected on day two of NFL Draft

Erik Ainge Highlights

Two more former Vols were selected on the second day of the 2008 NFL Draft on Sunday raising the final tally to three. Tight end Brad Cottam was taken by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round with the 76th overall selection and quarterback Erik Ainge was drafted by the New York Jets in the fifth round with the 162nd overall pick.

Several former Vol hopefuls did not get drafted. However, the following have already signed free agent deals:

  • TE Chris Brown – Jacksonville Jaguars
  • DB Jonathan Hefney – Tampa Bay Bucs
  • DE Xavier Mitchell – Cleveland Browns
  • DE Antonio Reynolds – New York Giants

No word yet on Ryan Karl or Eric Young.

[Update 4/28 3:15pm] Eric Young and former Vol James Banks signed free agent deals with the Cleveland Browns.

There are several discussions on the draft in the Vols Forum: [ Biggest Snub? ] [ Ainge to Jets ] [ Is Hefney going to be drafted? ] [ Free agent Vols ] [ Brad Cottam to the Chiefs ]
