The mood on campus after Thursday’s practice was… irritated. That’s the word I would use to describe Coach Fulmer and Coach Chavis. They are irritated at the team’s performance and irritated at the outcome of Monday night’s game.
Furthermore, they are irritated by having to face the media and answer questions as to what went wrong and why. Let’s face it, having to explain one of the more discouraging Tennessee losses in recent memory probably isn’t considered by most to be a job perk.
Chavis:
Anyone that has followed John Chavis at Tennessee would probably agree that he’s not a big fan of the media. That was evident on Thursday when he informed them to ask all of their questions about UCLA right then because it would be the only time he would talk about it.
He was obviously very distraught about the outcome of the game, describing it as one of the most disappointing losses of his career.
On the positive side, Chavis indicated that he was relatively pleased with the line play, even though he would like to see them get more pressure on the quarterback.
Several on the board commented about Rico McCoy only having four tackles in the game. According to Chavis, McCoy played very well and had several more tackles (9 total) than was credited in the box score.
Fulmer:
Coach Fulmer described himself as disappointed with Monday’s outcome. He pointed to the fact that UCLA was a good team, but not a great one. According to him, the Vols will play 6 or 7 teams this year that are better.
The head coach wasn’t overly critical on the play of quarterback Jonathan Crompton. Fulmer said that his quarterback handled the system well but made two or three plays that ‘will get you beat’.
One reporter asked about the status of Crompton’s concussion — Fulmer quipped, “Ever heard of HOEPA?”.
Crompton is expected to return to practice on Sunday.

Freak,
It appears that those commenting, are those least informmed.
mccoy had 5 tackles in the first half alone. He was agressive to the point that UCLA,did not challenge the weak-side but once or twice all-game,the linemen were totally shaken by mccoys aggressions, watch for yourselves in the future.
Rico was a dominate linebacker on the field Monday night and if you had to be told this, you really suck as a reporter, stat person or a knowledgable fan!
funny place, funnier folks! dirty dirty!
To voll fans: please, watch the game at least twice before downgrading your own players publicly! siily rabbits!
volfan2010, thanks for the comment. I don’t believe people were intentionally downgrading McCoy publicly or calling him out. As I remember it, the discussion was more directed at him only being credited with 4 tackles according to the official game stats.
cruddy piece freak.
sad that the fans don’t know more about the sport.
It’s sad if any of you had told that mccoy played very well. The kid had 5 tackles in the first half alone. He dominated linemen, covered well, and UCLA only tried the weakside maybe twice all-game and yes, mccoy made those plays as expected.
you folks are funny!
never seen fans like you folks.
