Tennessee picked up its 20th football commitment in the class of 2009 this weekend when running back David Oku from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma committed to the Vols. Oku is rated as a 4-star prospect and the nations #1 ranked all purpose back by Rivals.com.
Scout lists Oku as a 5-star and the #6 overall running back.
Oku is listed in ESPN’s Top 150 (#124) and is considered the #13th best running back in the class of 2009. ESPN grades him out as an 81 which is the second highest of any Tennessee commit. Only Jarvis Giles and Je’Ron Stokes graded higher, both are 83.
Oddly, The Sun (out of Oklahoma) published an article just today stating that Oku could be staying in state and the Tennessee headcover he has been wearing means nothing. It appears these guys are a couple days behind.
“It (the Tennessee headcover) doesn’t mean anything,” he said. “Things can change and there isn’t anything permanent.”
With blood so strong at home, he may be playing in Stillwater next fall.
The commitment moves Tennessee up to #7 on Rivals team recruiting rankings.
In his last game, Oku ran for 127 yards on 27 carries.
