The Rearview 1/5

Happy New Year Volnation!

Well, it’s been an interesting bowl season so far hasn’t it?  Just a few things that caught my attention over the past couple of weeks….

1.  Our basketball team apparently doesn’t play defense….at all.  For anyone that watched that entire game on Saturday, they know that was not a 7 point game.

2.  I know we’re in the SEC and we as SEC fans like to Chant S E C to opponents in bowl games and all, but I couldn’t help but be amused by the shots of the Alabama fans in the stands at the Super Dome on Friday night.

2 a.  While we’re talking about fans chanting their conference letters………a bit of advice to ACC Fans……..you don’t chant A C C at Nevada fans in the Humanitarian Bowl…….I mean, really?

3.  The Big 12 South…….ok, I was wrong.  The defenses are that bad.  Oregon and Ole Miss shredded Tech and State.  I guess that means tonight’s and Thursday’s games are all but decided?

4.  I would like to see Pitt and South Carolina play football against each other.  The offensive comedy of errors to come from such a match up could keep fans laughing for the entire game.

5.  Next on Ripley’s Believe it or Not………Kentucky has won 3 straight bowl games.  Tennessee Men’s basketball has gone to three straight NCAA tourneys and back to back sweet 16’s.

6.  Vanderbilt beat Boston College in a bowl game in Nashville and Tennessee’s football team got to watch it on TV.  Somewhere pigs are flying…….

7.  Georgia drilled LSU in Baton Rouge.  Georgia Tech throttled Georgia in Athens.  LSU drop kicks Georgia tech in Atlanta.  Huh?  I’m confused.

8.  Georgia won their bowl game, and no one cares.  And I mean no one.

9.  Southern Miss’s trainers should be drawn and quartered for how long it took them to get out to the WR that broke his leg in the New Orleans bowl.  Anyone that saw that game knows what I’m talking about….that was scary stuff.

10.  Hakim Nicks’ performance in the Meineke Car Care Bowl will likely reap some very large financial rewards in the near future.

Hopefully next time we’ll be able to delve in to the entire new staff at Tennessee and start looking at what the future just might hold with this staff.  I’ll simply leave you with this…….for the most part, everyone they’ve wanted to get on campus, they’ve gotten.  I don’t expect that to continue for the entirety of the staff mind you, but they’ve sent a clear message that they are dead serious about putting together a great staff.

Hope you all had a great Holiday Season.  Go Vols.
