Garza pleased with Evans and Anderson

It’s no secret that Tennessee is quite pleased with its talent and depth in the secondary. Coach Willie Mack Garza spoke about a couple of guys that he expects to contribute this season.

Art Evans

“He’s looking good.” Garza said. “He’s not 100% but he’s looking good. You can tell he is not full speed yet but he is really working hard and making plays at 75 percent, 80 percent, whatever he is. I think he’s a hell of a football player. He works hard… good kid… stays out of trouble. He’s trustworthy… dependable. He’s the kind of guy that you want on the football team as a cornerback.”

Anthony Anderson

I’ve been happy with Anthony Anderson,” said Garza. “He works extremely hard during practice and after practice. No off the field problems. You can trust him. He’s learning the cornerack position still because he played some safety during the spring mostly. We moved him to cornerback probably halfway through the spring, so he’s a work in progress but he’s made plays out here. He has some talent and ability and is a guy we are evaluating.”

Cromton becoming a student of the game.

“Some people are like, it’s a run play, why do you need to know the coverage?” Crompton told Drew Edwards. “You have to know it because it affects the blocking scheme for the receivers.”

“That’s something I’ve really enjoyed this year is (quarterbacks) coach (David) Reaves will quiz us after every play. `What was the coverage? Run play or pass play? Coverage?’ All it’s doing is making you repeat it over and over every play in your mind. It becomes second nature where it’s just natural to do it.”

From four to zero

Tennessee fans were elated to learn that Bryce Brown was cleared by the NCAA and wouldn’t be forced two serve a rumored two game suspension. But according to Lane Kiffin, prior to Tennessee’s appeal, the suspension was going to be four games.

“It was four games,” Kiffin said. “It was gonna be four games and our people did a great job and the NCAA did a great job of continuing to investigate it to look at it to go back and end up waiving it and changing it to nothing. It was four games and a lot of money. We are very excited for Bryce and for our whole team.”

When pressed further Kiffin wouldn’t elaborate on how much money was in question. He only indicated it was ‘a lot’.

Warren still bothered by injuries?

“It’s always something,” said Kiffin when asked about Warren. “Every day there is usually something. I don’t know what it was today.”
