We know that Lane Kiffin comes from a sports background. The football pedigree in particular has been well documented. He watched, played, learned, and loved the game.
Now his brash, ‘I’m standing right here, what do you want to do about it’ approach begs reaction. Either he’s praised or berated, but rarely anything in between. One thing that Tennessee fans have gotten is that, He Is Not Pretending.
His willingness to take the heat and focus that allows his Vols to relax and do their thing is a pretty cool concept. Recently however, a theory has been raised concerning the real impetus behinds Coach Kiffin’s persona.
It turns out that he is more than a casual dabbler into hip-hop, Yep, CLK is quite the spin doctor. Could rap music really be THE onus behind his genius? Many have misunderstood Coach Kiffin and what his message is all about.
So in the spirit of free information and apologies to Beck. This was allegedly scribbled on a piece of paper found in the parking lot where Lane parks his car . . . sometimes:
“There’s a happenin’ going on
In a place you and I know.
Bright lights and orange pizzazz,
Winner takes all and rocks the show.
They jive and slide in high five styles
As a power ‘T’ opens to a beat
That’s heard for miles
Two turntables and a microphone
Hear me now . . . feel me now?
Don’t get cut at this bag o’tricks
Ya feel the tune, ya spread the news
Jort shorts saggin look a bust
Lizard skin boots and elephant shoes
Can’t touch it wouldn’t know how
They stand back staring,
Just like…Wow!
Two turn tables and a microphone
Feel me now . . . hear me now?’’
Whether Coach Kiffin played any part in this who can say? It would explain his flair for drawing national attention and getting under the skin of certain coaches.
Pretty sure Lane Kiffin knows where it’s at. Where it’s at is the Tennessee program under his auspices. He’s made it exciting, interesting and fun again.
He’s instilled a confidence that is yet to be validated. But when he does, the message will only resonate louder. When that happens, two turntables and a microphone might not be enough.
