SEC Hoops Power Poll: Week of February 14 – 20

Garnet and Black Attack!
Here’s my ballot for this week in the 2010 SEC Hoops Power Poll, along with a feeble attempt at explaining why I’m such a moron. The SEC East is seriously top-heavy, while the SEC West looks a bit rough. Needless to say, this is the time of year when teams really make their case for being included in the NCAA tournament and for respectability. So, here’s how I rank the powers that be in the world of SEC Basketball for the week.
Here they are, my darlins:
Rk. | Team | Comments |
---|---|---|
1. | Is there any real question that the Kentucky Wildcats are the best in the SEC? | |
24 – 1 • 9 – 1 | ||
2. | For the Vanderbilt Commodores, the real question is whether they have a chance at catching the Wildcats. Somehow, I doubt it. Which sucks for the Dores considering this is one of the best teams they’ve had in years. | |
19 – 5 • 8 – 2 | ||
3. | At 18-6, you would expect the BasketVols to be doing well in the SEC. In the loaded SEC East, however, they are tied for third.
Were they in the SEC West, they’d be kickin’ ass and takin’ names… |
|
18 – 6 • 6 – 4 | ||
4. | If the Florida Gators were only a little bit better, they’d have a chance to run with the SEC East’s top-three. Unfortunately for them, however, they are not a little bit better. | |
17 – 8 • 6 – 4 | ||
5. | I think that the Mississippi State Bulldogs are in the NCAA tournament for sure. I imagine that they are already shining their cowbells in Starkville. They just better make sure they take care of business down the stretch. | |
18 – 7 • 6 – 4 | ||
6. | Who’da thunk it? The Ole Miss Rebels still have a chance to get an NCAA bid, and Andy Kennedy didn’t assault anyone this week.
Good times, good times… |
|
17 – 7 • 5 – 5 | ||
7. | It’s hard to believe that a 13-12 team is still atop (at least on paper) the SEC West . It’s peculiar that the Arkansas Razorbacks could come into the SEC Tournament at No 1, but—barring them winning it all—could end up in the NIT. | |
13 – 12 • 6 – 4 | ||
8. | The South Carolina Gamecocks loss to Georgia stings mightily considering that probably means that, at best, they are NIT bound.
A little more depth, though, and this team could really be great. Honest! |
|
14 – 10 • 5 – 5 | ||
9. | Oh my, how the Alabama Crimson Tide so wanted to rush to the front of the West this year. Needless to say, we are all still holding our breath. | |
14 – 11 • 4 – 7 | ||
10. | Someone please tell Auburn Tigers’ coach Jeff Lebo that the sound he just heard was the slamming of the door. | |
12 – 13 • 3 – 7 | ||
11. | The only people more surprised by the Georgia Bulldogs win over South Sa’Karlina was the Gamecocks themselves.
If Georgia can try and hold things together, they might just have a shot at the post-season—stress “might.“ |
|
11 – 12 • 3 – 7 | ||
12. | The LSU Tigers are beginning to convince me that we need a handicap system like they have in golf.
The Tigers just plain suck. |
|
9 – 16 • 0 – 11 |
Moving right along ….

How come everybody continues to have Ole Miss and Mississippi State ahead of Arkansas in these power polls. We are 1st in the West and split with State. They beat us 2 at there place we beat them 6 I believe in Fayetteville. We beat Ole Miss on the road so that really doesn’t make since to me at all. Just curious, I know we had early season troubles, but this team is much better now with Fortson and I’m sure people are just judging us from last year. Time will only tell I guess. It’s probably to soon to be whining about respect we havn’t proved it to anybody yet. Good luck to your teams and we will meet soon.
