From time to time, I get an inclination to write one of these ‘what you missed’ posts. Today is one of those days, so like it or not, here goes.
- Mike Strange takes a look back at the 2006 Tennessee basketball class. Marques Johnson, Ramar Smith, Duke Crews, and Josh Tabb have all departed and Wayne Chism is the lone senior left standing from that group.
- Ruh Roh Raggy. Looks like there may be a small snag in negotiations to finalize Derek Dooley’s contract. According to reports, Mike Hamilton and his ol’ buddy Jimmy Sexton may not see eye to eye on the issue of buyout clauses. Let’s call it the Lane Kiffin clause.
- Tennessee moved up in both of this week’s college basketball polls. The Vols now sit at No. 16 in the AP Poll and No. 13 (oddly, six spots ahead of Vandy) in the ESPN/USA Today poll.
- As for RPI, the Vols are 15th in Jerry Palm’s CollegeRPI.com and 14th according to RealTimeRPI.com. This week’s bracketology projects Tennessee as a four seed in the Midwest Region.
- Tyler Smith is off to play professional basketball in Turkey.
- CFN lists Tennessee among the schools with the top quarterback battles heading into the 2010 season. Nick Stephens, Tyler Bray, and Matt Simms will fight to earn the starting job for the Vols.
- Two days later, the official box score still lists J.P Prince with 20 points in 26 minutes of play in Tennessee’s win against Kentucky. Apparently, it actually happened.
The VolNation Buzz — hot threads in the past 24 hours.
- VolNation members are convinced that Eric Berry is The Flash.
- If you play tight end, Derek Dooley will love you. If you don’t play tight end, now is the time to switch because Dooley loves tight ends.
- Mike Hamilton has apparently never heard the old saying, why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free.
- Just when the cries to bring back John Ward have passed, an underground movement has emerged to replace Bob Kessling with Charles Davis as the new Voice of the Vols.
- To storm or not to storm. That is question of the day for true intellectual types.
