Monday recruiting notes

ESPNU 150 Watch List receiver DeAnthony Arnett plans on attending an Alabama practice this spring. Tennessee isn’t among the leaders for Arnett, but he told CrimsonConfidential that the Vols, along with the Oregon Ducks, are just outside his top three.

It appears the Vol coaches prefer snail mail. Safety Wayne Lyons told Scout.com that Tennessee sends him the most mail, FSU the most email, and Northwestern sends him the most messages on Facebook. Lyons has 37 offers and plans to start narrowing his list in early spring or summer.

Tom Luginbill says one reason quarterback Christian LeMay is so highly sought after is because of his mechanics. According to Luginbill, he has as good of a release as anyone in the past five years. The ball comes out clean and smooth and he has a very strong arm with a quick release.

DeVondrick Nealy picked up an offer from Iowa State. Nealy reports offers from Texas Tech, Tennessee, Stanford, Southern Mississippi, USF, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Minnesota, Memphis, and Duke.

Weighing in at 6-6, 220 pounds and running a 4.49 40-yard dash, receiver Kelvin Benjamin is turning heads. “Recruiting is pretty crazy,” Benjamin told GatorCountry after the Badger Sports Elite 7-on-7 tournament. “I get offers in every other day.”

Running back Aaron Green is up to 25 offers, including one from Derek Dooley and Tennessee. Green hasn’t had the opportunity to meet Dooley as of yet, but likes Tennessee’s tradition, fan base, and huge stadium.

Texas doesn’t offer its scholarships to just anyone. Hakeem Flowers recently received an offer according to gogamecocks.com, but the Longhorns wanted an answer right then. “Coach (Mack) Brown verbally offered me but wanted a commitment on the spot, and I wasn’t ready,” said Flowers, who recently visited Austin. “He said when I’m ready to commit to call him and he’ll send an offer.”

ESPNU 150 Watch List receiver Justin Scott is hearing from Tennessee, according to gogamecocks.com. Scott measures 5-11, 190 pounds and attends Mitchell-Baker High School in Georgia. The same source reports that Marlboro County linebacker Lateek Townsend has an offer from Tennessee.

One of the Dixon brothers, Gerald Dixon of Northwestern, plans to visit Tennessee, North Carolina, and LSU.

Of his nine offers, Jeff Heuerman told Dave Hooker that Tennessee is his biggest. “Tennessee, they’re in the lead,” Heuerman said. “They’re out and away in the lead so far.”

Knoxville Catholic quarterback Mike Wegzyn was mentioned by one recruiting analyst over the weekend as a ‘name to remember going into the Spring/Summer Combine season’.
