Thursday recruiting notes, bulleted list edition

Fresh on the heels of Tennessee’s first commitment for 2011, I bring you Thursday’s recruiting notes. Notice how the name changes depending on when I choose to post them. Hopefully, I can post these more regularly in the future.

If you know of any important updates that I missed, and I’m certain there are many, I encourage you to post them in the comments below.

Today’s edition comes to you in clear, bulleted-list form in response to a ‘lack of flowing composition’ in previous editions. Thanks to T_man_J.

  • If you’ve been under a rock all week or just enjoy arguing to the death over recruiting services and star rankings, check out the Christian Harris thread. He committed to Tennessee on Saturday.
  • In case you didn’t see the article, Kenbrell Thompkins signed with Cincinnati. It’s an interesting choice by the JUCO receiver.
  • Lonnie Ballentine has become a hot topic. According to reports, Ballentine will sign a letter of intent on Monday as part of the 2010 signing class. It’s unclear where he will sign, but it’s believed that Tennessee has a shot to land the Memphis safety.
  • Talented defensive back Robenson Therezie from Miami, Florida told Insidetheu.com this week that Tennessee is in his top three along with FSU and Alabama.
  • Chris Jones, a 5-11, 185-pound safety from Adamsville, Alabama told AuburnUndercover.com that while Auburn is his leader, Tennessee is close behind along with Florida, Louisville, and then Vanderbilt.
  • VolNation introduced you to Edward Muldrow today. According to the AJC, recruiting interest is picking up considerably for the talented linebacker.
  • This article names Shon Carson of Lake City as the top running back prospect in the state of South Carolina and Charone Peake as the top wide receiver.
  • Jay Rome isn’t just a talented football player, he also excels on the basketball court. Referring to the Georgia North South All-star junior boys game, SavannahNow.com wrote, “Jay Rome of Valdosta scored 23 of his game-high 29 points in the second half to earn the South’s most valuable player honor.” Speaking of Rome, former Georgia quarterback Buck Belue wrote in a recent blog that the Bulldogs have a great shot of landing the Valdosta tight end. Belue, a friend of the family, claims he came to this conclusion after a recent conversation with close friends.
  • Watts Dantzler likes Tennessee and apparently also has a taste for the theater. Dantzler’s name is listed as part of the cast for the upcoming “Do You Remember?” production according to the Dalton Daily Citizen. Oh, it also appears he plays JV tennis. Or maybe there is another Watts Dantzler in Dalton, Georgia? Dantzler recently visited a Tennessee practice, but left Knoxville and drove down to Athens to spend the night and hang out with friends at UGA.
  • With so many schools after wide receiver DeAnthony Arnett, it’s hard to imagine that Tennessee has much of a shot at this point. But for whatever reason, I keep reading articles where the ESPNU 150 Watch List receiver mentions Tennessee.
  • The same goes for quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. When asked, he still lists Tennessee among his top five or six schools.
  • Rodney Coe, the 6-2, 250-pound linebacker from Edwardsville, IL, told ESPN affiliate CallingtheHogs.com that Tennessee made his top five. Coe named Alabama, Arkansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, and Tennessee (notice the alphabetical order) as his leaders. According CallingtheHogs.com, Coe averaged 9.2 yards per carry last season and scored 12 touchdowns. On defense, he registered 37 solo tackles, 31 assists, and 5.5 sacks.
  • Johnathan Aiken, a 5-11, 185-pound defensive back, told USFNation.com after attending junior day in South Florida that he plans to visit Tennessee.
  • Earlier this week, Alan Posey named Clemson and Tennessee as his top two schools. He plans to announce his college choice on May 4th. Posey visited Tennessee practice this week.
  • According to reports, Kiaro Holts has a Tennessee offer. Holts is a 6-4, 265-pound offensive tackle from Warren Central High School in Indiana.
  • GoGamecocks.com wrote about Terry Redden of Memphis. The article states Redden would like to visit Clemson, LSU, Miami, and Southern Cal. The article also states that Justin Floyd, offensive lineman from Cartersville, Georgia, is getting interest from Tennessee, but quotes Floyd on wanting a South Carolina offer.
  • Speedy receiver Daryl Collins from Gadsden, Alabama told CrimsonConfidential that Tennessee is among is six offers, but yesterday, he committed to Alabama.
  • The Palm Beach Post released their ‘big board’ this week and defensive end Curt Maggitt was on top of their list.
  • Matt Prehm wrote just last week about Cyrus Hobbi and his recent Tennessee offer. This week, Hobbi was invited to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio next year. Nick O’Leary also received and invitation as well as one to the Under Armor All-American Game.
  • Curtis Grant has about 15 offers, including one from Tennessee, but the ESPNU 150 Watch List linebacker told CrimsonConfidential.com that he has no favorites at this time.
  • Shon Carson, a 5-9, 195-pound linebacker from Lake City, SC, told GoGamecocks.com that USC, Clemson, Tennessee, and North Carolina are making the strongest push for him right now.

  1. I look forward to reading these recruiting note recaps more than anything else on this entire website (except a new commitment thread). Keep up the great work, and I look forward to reading the next one.

  2. I haven’t been touring all the different sites until recently. This is my first time reading your recruiting updates but it won’t be my last! I really enjoy the format; direct and to the point. Thanks, great read!
