Phillip Fulmer hasn't given up on the possibility coaching again

It’s a rainy Tuesday in Knoxville. It’s the offseason. And Phillip Fulmer has been in the news today. Twice.

Fulmer told the Tennessean that he hasn’t given up on the idea of coaching again and might consider a return if the right situation comes along.

“It would have to be a real special kind of situation. I’ve been out of it for a couple of years now. I think I still have a lot to give to society, or our game, or our business, or whatever I decide to do. But it would have to be a real special situation.”

WBIR also interviewed Fulmer, discussing, among other things, his commitment years ago to Bear Bryant at Alabama.

“Coach Bryant was the guy.”

Since the time he could walk, Fulmer played sports. Baseball was his first love, but football was the ticket to his future.

Bear Bryant and the Crimson Tide came calling.

“I actually committed to him. I don’t know if a lot of people know that. I guess I’m telling a whole lot of people right now.”

In this interview, however, Fulmer says he doesn’t believe he will coach again.

Fulmer last coached Tennessee in 2008. His name has since surfaced as a potential candidate for several coaching vacancies, but nothing has materialized thus far.

  1. I love coach Fulmer. The 90’s were awesome and I will never forget. He is one of, if not the greatest coach in Tennessee History!
