Preston Dewey, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound signal-caller from Austin, Texas, picked up a scholarship offer from Tennessee this week.
Dewey apparently visited Knoxville during the Kentucky game last season and plans to make his college choice known sometime this summer.
ESPN’s Tom Luginbill had the opportunity to evaluate Dewey during the Elite 11 Regional Quarterback Camp in April. Luginbill titled the segment, “Dewey Dominates”.
Preston Dewey (Austin, Texas/St. Andrews) not only performed the best on Saturday, but also possesses possibly the most upside. He is coached by former Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer and it is obvious he has done a great job with Dewey. We first saw Dewey a year ago, when he was about an inch shorter and 10 pounds lighter, but he has really filled out. His release, footwork, delivery mechanics and overall competitiveness only cemented what we had seen on film to this point. He is so sound and very accurate. He can anticipate and he compensated for the wind better than most, which was a very difficult element. With recent offers from UCLA and a few non-BCS level programs, we expect Dewey’s stock to rise considerably. He has a very high ceiling for development and you could see his confidence and swagger soar from beginning to end and he really got into a zone. We feel he is a BCS-level player that no one knows about or has not paid close enough attention to.As noted above, Dewey is coached by former NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer.

“(It’s a) pretty cool deal playing for an NFL quarterback and one of the greatest college quarterbacks of all time,” Dewey said. “I’ve learned a lot from him in my short time here and I’m sure I’m going to learn a lot more.”
Dewey is slated to participate in the 2012 Under Armour Game, which is expected to be scheduled for sometime in January.
JUNIOR HIGHLIGHTS
With Matt Simms graduating after this season, that leaves three quarterbacks on scholarship for 2012: Tyler Bray, Justin Worley and Nash Nance. Tennessee did not sign a quarterback in the 2011 class.

looks pretty good to me !! has this season to add to his resume. i like his throwing motion a lot
Tennessee signed Worley in the 2011 class, but he was an EE.
Bray plays 2011, 2012 & 2013. Worley red-shirts 2011, rides the bench 2012 & 2013, then starts 2014 & 2015. Dewey red-shirts 2012, rides the bench 2013, 2014 & 2015 and then is the starter for his senior season of 2016.
Will he come here for one season as a starter, when he may be able to go else where and get 2 or 3 years of playing time???
Thanks schwompal. I’ve corrected my mistake. I suppose it seems like he’s been here longer because he was an early enrollee.
I even doubled-checked the official “newcomer” list before posted, but I see now that list doesn’t include the early enrollees. Doh!
Interesting, I live in Austin not far from St Michaels, I’ll have to check him out this fall if he stays a legit prospect.
I like his accuracy! looks a touch skiddish in the pocket, but maybe it’s because his offensive line appears to be a little weak. solid looking quarterback though.
Thats assuming no injuries and whos to say he couldnt beat out Worley for the job? We havent seen him on the field yet
