Miles, who is considered the top safety in the state of Texas, committed to the Volunteers in May prior to having ever visited the campus. He visited for the first time in July and followed that up with a trip to Knoxville in September to watch the Vols battle the Gators in Neyland Stadium.
“I want to play in the SEC,” the Dallas-area native told the Chattanooga Times Free Press. “That’s really where my heart was at. I had a good connection with the coaches, and that’s why I really felt comfortable. It’s just a wonderful feeling, and I’m really happy right now. I just really can’t believe this is happening right now.”
“Me becoming a BCS starter would be because of my maturity and my IQ of the game on the next level,” Miles previously told Sporting News. “What makes me good at my position is my ball skills, play recognitions and that I’m very physical coming down hill, and with my coverage.”
Miles had relationships with Tennessee coaches Sal Sunseri and Josh Conklin, but tight ends coach Charlie Coiner was his primary recruiter.
“When I talked to [Sunseri], I felt I had to go there if he was making a comparison with me and Mark Barron. I saw the way Alabama used him, and he was all over the field. When he said I can play the same position, I said I was all in,” Miles said.
