Tennessee picked up yet another commitment on Tuesday as 2014 Georgia safety Cortez McDowell became the 20th commit of the Vols’ class.
McDowell, measuring 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, is a consensus 4-star prospect and is the top safety in the state of Georgia according to the AJC.
“There were a lot of reasons why I picked Tennessee, but the main one was it’s a good fit for myself – somewhere were I’m going to spend the next four or five years of my life,” McDowell said. “I felt like Tennessee is a great spot for myself, and that’s why I went with my gut feeling.”
Last season McDowell tallied 63 tackles, 10 pass break-ups, two interceptions, a sack and a forced fumble.
“Coach Jones said I gave him goosebumps and that I fired him up to talk to the 500 people at SEC Media Days,” McDowell told ESPN. “It is amazing to see what he and his staff have been able to do in only a few months.”
McDowell was recruited to Tennessee by Tommy Thigpen and Willie Martinez and is the Vols third commitment from the state of Georgia.
The Vols continue to hold the top-ranked recruiting class in the nation according to Rivals.com.
