Subtract one from Tennessee’s 2014 recruiting class.

Junior college wide receiver Kameel Jackson, who committed to Tennessee in April along with his teammate and current Vol Johnathan Johnson, has “parted ways” with Tennessee, according to multiple reports.

Jackson’s situation is a bit odd because he isn’t currently on the roster of Blinn College in Texas, where he started the 2013 season. It’s unclear whether he has been dismissed from the team or if any other issues are at play.

Originally a four-star recruit out of high school, Jackson signed with Oklahoma as part of the 2011 recruiting class. During his freshman campaign, he caught 12 passes for 165 yards, including a career-high 3 catches for 45 yards in the Insight Bowl against Iowa.

Soon after, Jackson was suspended indefinitely by coach Bob Stoops for a “violation of team rules”. It was later reported that academic issues were the cause of both his suspension and eventual departure from the Sooners in August of 2012.

Louisiana-Monroe was the next stop for Jackson, where he practiced, but was forced to sit out the season due to NCAA guidelines.

In April of 2013, Louisiana-Monroe confirmed that Jackson left school to improve his grades in junior college. This time, his destination turned out to be Blinn College in Texas where he played in one game, catching 5 passes for 36 yards, according to the school’s official website.

Even though the details are a bit unclear at this point, we know that Jackson doesn’t appear on the Blinn College roster. And we know that he won’t play football at Tennessee.

In a year where many consider Tennessee to have a bit of a numbers crunch, the Vols now have a total of 27 commits in the 2014 class.
