Williams measures 6-foot-5 and weighs in right at 200 pounds. The consensus 4-star receiver (Scout 5*, Rivals 4*, 247 4*, ESPN 4*) committed to Tennessee last September. He has since taken visits to Clemson and Georgia and plans to visit Gainesville this weekend, but remains firmly committed to the Vols.
“I’m still solid with Tennessee,” Williams said. “Tennessee is building something special. I have not even thought about another school yet.”
The Adidas award isn’t the only recognition he’s received this offseason. The talented junior at Lovejoy High School in Hampton, GA recently accepted an invitation to play in the prestigious US Army All-American Bowl in January of 2015, which boasts more than 200 NFL players as alumni.
Williams was in Knoxville last year for games against Auburn and Georgia and is said to have a solid relationship with Tennessee receivers coach Zach Azzanni. Currently, Williams is on track to graduate high school in December so he can be an early enrollee in 2015.
Adding players like Williams to the roster, Tennessee is propelling itself back to talent level deserving of the “Wide Receiver U” moniker while building a pipeline in the state of Georgia. Assuming his commitment sticks, it will be the third-straight year a top prospect from the area has signed with Tennessee. Defensive back Cameron Sutton inked with the Vols in 2012 and Cortez McDowell, who is considered one of the top safeties in the country, followed suit in 2013.
Last season, Preston Williams caught 56 catches for 1402 yards and 14 touchdowns.
