Monday evening, four-star defensive back Duke Shelley attempted to become the eighth member of Tennessee’s 2015 signing class. He announced his intentions via Twitter.
But apparently, Shelley didn’t clear his decision with Tennessee’s coaches.
“There was just some miscommunication,” Shelley’s high school coach Bryan Lamar said in an interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Tuesday.
“They’re (Tennessee) still high on him,” Lamar added. “It’s not a situation where they don’t like the kid or want the kid. You know how it is? They’ve still got to go through their evaluation and recruiting process, and make sure he’s the best fit for them and all that kind of stuff.”
The 5-8,165-pound Shelley is a four-star prospect according to Rivals, and he would have been Tennessee’s third verbal commitment from the state of Georgia joining wide receiver Preston Williams from Lovejoy and defensive end Andrew Butcher from Alpharetta.
We’ll wait and see how this shakes out, but with limited spots available for defensive backs in the 2015 class it looks like Tennessee is not ready to accept Shelley’s commitment at this time.
