McKenzie, who had offers from schools such as Alabama, Florida, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, UCLA and USC — among others — picked the Volunteers over the Arizona Wildcats in a scheduled announcement on Thursday. A national ESPNU audience watched the talented lineman put on an big orange-colored “bucket hat” as he announced his college choice.
His measurements: 6-foot-4, 341 pounds.
The commitment is yet another legacy pick up for Vols’ coach Butch Jones. McKenzie’s father, Reggie McKenzie played for the Vols from 1985-1988 and is now the general manager of the Oakland Raiders.
His uncle, Raleigh, is a former Vol as well. He wore number 52 for the Vols and it just so happens that Kahlil’s commitment came just 52 days before the season starts. Coincidence or weird karma?
