Tennessee native Chase Sain joins Vol Baseball staff as volunteer assistant and director of camps
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Baseball Head Coach Dave Serrano announcedon Friday the addition of Chase Sain as new volunteer assistant coach entering the 2016-17 season.
Sain, a Tennessee native, joins the Volunteers staff following two seasons spent as a volunteer assistant coach with Middle Tennessee State University. During his stint with the Blue Raiders, he assisted with hitting instruction, coached catchers and coordinated summer camps at MTSU.
“I’m excited to have Chase and his wife, Shelby, joining our Vol family as our volunteer assistant and director of camps,” Serrano said. “He comes highly regarded from coaches in this state that I have tremendous respect for.
“Chase will be exclusively in charge of our catching position, a position he played at the Division I level, and he will be the director for our camps. I loved his passion, energy and thoughts on how he wants to coach our catchers. Bringing Chase in will also allow me to move more exclusively back into being in charge of our pitching staff.”
Prior to joining MTSU’s staff, Sain spent the summer of 2014 as hitting coach for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks of the Cape Cod Baseball League. He also served as hitting coach and recruiting coordinator for Victory University that year, when the Eagles finished with a 31-24 record and placed fourth in the Small College World Series.
From 2011-13, Sain coached as a student assistant at the University of Memphis for two seasons. While at UM, he also coached catchers and assisted with coaching hitters. He created offensive and defensive drills, while prepping pitchers in the bullpen during games.
“It’s an honor and very humbling to have the opportunity to join Coach Serrano and this incredible staff,” Sain said. “Having grown up in the state of Tennessee, I understand the passion and tradition that come with being a Volunteer and I’m super excited be to begin working at this unbelievable place.”
A 2013 graduate of Memphis with a degree in interdisciplinary studies, Sain was a three-year letterman for the Tigers baseball program as a catcher. The Bolivar, Tenn. native is married to Shelby Sain (formerly Shelby Strong) of Germantown, Tenn.
