I’m not sure if Barnes has had a contract extension since March 2022. That one was through 2026-27 (4/30/2027).

That's just because it may take that long for the Lady Vols to get another high school recruit. Were they not 0 for, the last cycle ?

I expect White to potentially give Barnes another small contract extension until the 2029-2030 season if Barnes decides to keep coaching that long.

Seems like adding one year after every year is the typical practice. But CRB apparently hasn’t had the extra year added after 2022-23 wrapped up (unless I’ve missed an announcement). Maybe basketball is different than football, but don’t they also usually always have 5 years total. CRB is at 4: 2023-24, 2024-25, 2025-25, and 2025-26. Most players signed these days might rarely be around for 4/5 years so maybe things are changing.

I think that UT’s fiscal year is 7/1-6/30, so perhaps a fifth year is in the works. And since Barnes is his own agent maybe he’s fine with the time line. I’ve NEVER seen a TN coach retire in FB or BB (starting with Dickey/Mears). I don’t know how it would work.

But, back on topic - I think that TN has 3 prospects and 2 offers out for the 2026 class but radio silence with 2027.

The fact that we are recruiting kids my daughters age makes me feel both old and sad.

Since there was so much backlash after his last deal plus contracts continuing to escalate, Barnes might not be in any hurry. A Final Four is within reach and getting there probably translates to a $10 million annual deal.
