Teams in Blue and Red have clinched SEC tourney.
The top four
teams get a first day bye in the tourney and miss the single elimination first day. I believe it will be hard for any of those 4 teams to slip to #5 or lower.
Auburn is 5 games behind both Ole Miss and LSU for the 12th spot . OM and LSU both hold the tiebreaker so technically Auburn is closer to 6 games behind with 6 games to go.
Missouri is in slightly better condition 2 games behind Auburn.
The numbers in (parenthesis) are magic numbers to clinch tourney spot
Because UGA and SC have both beat Mizzou they have clinched spot being up 6 games

Auburn and Missouri play next week in Columbia, MO. One of them will definitely be eliminated from Hoover by Sunday
Should Mizzou sweep. They will likely be 1 game behind Ole Miss and/or LSU for the 12th spot. (both have tough road trips to Alabama and A&M respectively)
The last week, Ole Miss and LSU play against each other in BR. This gives a glimmer of hope to Mizzou as one may eliminate the other. But Mizzou plays at Miss St.

Last Week Rankings (D1) This weeks results and my Monday predictions ( parenthesis)

25 Utah….................…… .1-2…….1-2 @ Oregon……..............................(NR)

I believe TAMU saved their ranking with the 1 win today
Arkansas lost ugly at Kentucky
Tennessee just didn't look good enough in their 4 games.
Clemson split with an underwhelming GaTech

This mass ACC "off week" is very annoying

possible teams entering polls:
UCSB 3-0 vs UCSD but lost to Cal-Baptist midweek (RPI 16)
Troy 3-1 vs AL State and Louisiana (RPI 47)
Oregon 2-1 vs. Utah (RPI 48)
Virginia Tech 4-0 this week NCAT and Ohio (RPI 42)

There's been a lot of talk about the UCSB Gauchos even possibly hosting a regional. I think they can possibly get rankled pretty high. Big West could get two teams in. (Irvine and UCSB) but I think Poly killed Irvine's chances of hosting
Troy has not lost a series since USM in late March. They swept at CCU last week and have series win against UL
Oregon was humming along until upset series loss to Stanford and tough series loss the next week at O-State.
VaTech has not won an ACC series since Pitt in late March

I bet UCSB and Troy get in poll this week.

No way A&M stays number 1.

They are now 4th in the SEC.

I'd have Kentucky as high as #4/5
The SEC-E is +10 games over the West, so just make TN/KY look that much better.

#4
#4
NCAA Bids

SEC remains the #1 conference by RPI over #2 ACC with the Big12 at #3.

RPI is not the end all and be all of deciding tourney bids

Texas A&M 1
Kentucky 2
Arkansas 3
Georgia 5
Tennessee 8
South Carolina 12
Miss State 18

Alabama 14 (3) <-----------
Vanderbilt 26 (2) <------------
Florida 23 (3)
Ole Miss 25 (4)
LSU 34 (4)

Auburn 49
Missouri 95

Based on RPI alone, 12 teams are in the hunt.
Teams in blue are in. Barring complete collapses by SC and MSI
The teams in RED have work (wins) to get to that 13 game mark that is normally needed to get to NCAA. I believe 2 teams <-------------- get in but it's not a certainty. Alabama has an easier path than Vanderbilt.

You will note that Vanderbilt with only 11 wins may have some issues. They close with 3 games with Tennessee and 3 at Kentucky. What if the Dores got 1-5 or 2-4? They will need to do well in Hoover to secure a spot. What if they get swept (again) but both highly ranked opponents? 11-19 will not get Vanderbilt into tourney no matter what their RPI is. Warren Nolan expects Vandy to go 2-4 in their last six. Which would get a predicted final RPI of 23.

Vanderbilt has gone 1-6 in their last seven SEC games and 3-9 in last twelve. And those have been against 5, 18 and 23 RPI teams.

The underlined teams are national seeds
Georgia can get to top-8 with winnable series at SC and vs. Florida
Right now, there are 7 gimmees and 2 likely (Vandy and Alabama)
Vandy has pissed away their shot at hosting. If they can go 5-1 or 6-0 in last 2 weeks they "may" be able to get back in to top 16.
Miss State will need to not be swept at Arkansas and sweep Missouri to hose.

I think the SEC may get 10 teams in. But right now, they are only looking to deserve 9
Alabama closes against LSU and then at Auburn. They could get 4-5 wins easily and breeze into field. If they get 5 or 6- with their RPI; they may still a host slot. Their only road series win was at Ole Miss. They are 3-9 on the SEC road

The 3 "bubble teams":
Any good that Florida may do at home against Kentucky next week will likely be cancelled out at Athens the next week
Ole Miss hosts an angry A&M team before going to LSU
LSU has to go to home juggernaut Alabama before hosting Ole Miss

No way A&M stays number 1.

They are now 4th in the SEC.
I go back and forth.

Arkansas
Texas A&M
Kentucky
Tennessee

Of those four teams, which has the fewest series losses?

When you think about that number, it will be hard not to move Tennessee to #1. Especially since the Vols have won 7 series in a row losing only their first.

Arkansas has lost road series to Alabama and Kentucky
Texas A&M has lost a home series to Florida and road series to LSU
Kentucky has lost a home series to Tennessee and a road series to South Carolina (they also lost a non-conference series to Kennesaw State)
Tennessee has a road series loss to Alabama

But, then you consider that Tennessee only went 2-2 last week. Those teams don't typically move up in polls and especially to #1.
Arkansas would easily have moved back to #1 had they won today but they simply did not show up and only put up meaningless runs late.
Kentucky just lost back-to-back series and were not really knee capped in the polls like they should. I don't think you can make a team that has gone 3-5 into the #1 teams
I abhor Clemson with almost ferver as I hate Ole Miss and that Baby Shark song. But they no embarrassing losse. They have no Q4 losses

I just think that ugly Q4 Lipscomb loss has to count for something.

A&M has only lost to Q1 teams (11-8)
UK is 6-2 Q2; 4-2 Q3; 8-1 Q4
Ark is 6-1 Q2; 9-0 Q3 l 13-0 Q4
Clemson is 8-2 Q2; 9-3 Q3; 6-0 Q4
Tennessee would have been on par with A&M with no Q2, Q3, or Q4 losses if not for Lipscomb.

I just think no one has done enough this week to overtake A&M.

Let's see how my predictions last last on D1 poll worked out.
1. Texas AM X+2
2. Tennessee X-1
3. Clemson X-1
4. Arkansas X+1
5. East Carolina X+1
6. Oregon State X+1
7. Kentucky X-3
8. Florida State
9. Duke
10. Virginia
11. North Carolina
12. Wake Forest
13. UC Irvine X-3
14. South Carolina X-1
15. Miss State X-1
16. Oklahoma State X+3
17. Arizona
18. Oklahoma
19. Indiana State X+1
20. Vanderbilt X+6
21. Louisiana X+1
22. NC State X+1

Entering poll:
UCSB
Troy

I had Oregon X a possibility but they took Vanderbilt's spot I guess

Dropping out
Alabama
Utah

I got 11 correct. and 15 wrong.
Funny that I missed what are normally the easier slots 1-5

I am surprised that Vanderbilt dropped from #17 to out of the poll. By far, they were my biggest miss (I put -6 but it could have been more I guess)
My next biggest miss was Kentucky (+3) I just didn't think they would jump up that many slots after losing the prior 2 weekends.

It’s beginning to look like this will be unanimous:

USA Today Coaches Poll

View attachment 639025

The Hi/Lo numbers really show how topsy-turvy the season has been with 13 teams been unranked at one time or the other now being in the poll.
Nine teams are currently sitting at their high-water mark. Eight of those Hi-Waters were also on the unranked list (Tenn. being only exception)

The poll below is the preseason coaches poll. The 5/6 column shows where those teams are ranked this week. The last column is the first week preseason ranked teams were not listed in the top-25.

4 of the top 6 teams are no longer ranked at all.
However, 5 teams starting in the top-10; remain in the top-10.

4 teams lost their ranking in the second week of the poll on 2/26/2024
Vanderbilt is the last on the list to fall and that was this week. closes with 2 top five teams
Coastal tanked the last several weeks and fell out last week. Except for a midweek game vs. Clemson, The CCU schedule is quite soft their last 8 games
Alabama is at their current low water mark and will fall out next week without a good showing. They play at ranked Troy and host LSU.
UCSB fell out on 2/26 but have made this list again this week. The are on cruise control the last 3 weekends (no conf tourney)
Texas has not returned to this poll but has appeared in other poll this week. They close at UCF and vs KU
