This could be delusion, but I feel that the most realistic options in play are either pulling the plug sometime before September 26th due to skyrocketing case counts on SEC campuses/locker rooms or the conference season ending with a champion being crowned in Atlanta. Of those, every subsequent Friday is going to serve as a benchmark of sorts and I just can't see ADs and school brass backtracking once we hit August 28th unless the situation turns truly catastrophic.

I wouldn't go so far to say that none of the fourteen teams will have a game or two scrapped, but every matchup brings two programs 10% closer to a completed season and I can absolutely envision that momentum outweighing a few player quarantines given the money on the line.

There will be nothing catastrophic except in the minds of the hysterical media and politicians. If players get it, they will be done with it in about a week or 2 and resume playing. Just like MLB is doing. I don't want anyone to get the flu, or get sick at all but they could have the virus and probably be done with it--just like when they have "flu like symptoms".

"Science" tells us that over 99% of people under 25 survive with no long lasting problems. That, fellow Vol fans, is nothing to panic about kids playing sports. Plus, if players and other students who get sick are quarantined in safe dorm spaces, the vulnerable population is protected more than if the sick are recovering at home.

This is not hard to understand. It will probably go away after the election.

Everything will hinge, I think, on the number of new COVID cases generated once the student body is back on campus. If we go into a second wave and they send everyone home then you can forget it.

Curious, what do my volnation brothers and sisters think about this.

I have been back and forth on this..... I will reserve my thought for a few days and let volnation speak.
I believe they will try to do anything in their power to have a season solely for monetary purposes. I also believe a few games in they'll realize it won't be possible.

We play as long as the true Commissioner, Nick Saban, thinks it is the best interest of the Tide. If Tennessee (or any NON Elephant squad) builds up a head of steam and is scheduled to play Bama the next week, expect the plug to be pulled instantly at that point.

Should be zero.

The pattern of the virus would suggest that those states now with significant outbreaks will have a curve like that of NYC, Sweden, and other places. Cases and deaths will peak (if they have not already) and then drop sharply.

That's the "science" of it. The politics of it suggests that anyone who tries to use a level head and not take unnecessary, radical actions will be demagogued and demonized.

There is very little science that suggests college athletes are at a high risk. CF should be played normally but people have bought into the fearbporn narrative that this thing is a super super killer.

Agree. If this is too much risk then college football should never be played again... and the folks here buying into and promoting the Covid narrative may indirectly be working toward that very end.

Unfortunately, I fear today's cancel culture will win out.......even with football.

There is however real danger to the faculty, staff, teachers, custodians, food facility workers, coaches, trainers, referees, and other members of the student body who will catch the virus from these players as they "mingle" with others. People try to make this one-sided argument that only the players matter.

And if they put fans in the stands now you're talking about obese diabetes infested chronic smokers/drinkers all out of shape that makes up a huge part of the SEC football fan base.

Its hilarious that now you have huge organizations who are going to lose untold millions in profits by deciding not to play, organizations that have their own experts their own doctors and their own interests (separate of those in Washington), but people still refuse to believe that this isn't serious.

With the improving trends basically everywhere in the South, I'm actually becoming more optimistic. I hope that we are cresting the very-much expected hill, following the same pattern that has been seen around most of the world.
Kevin Warren is praying that you are wrong.

Why should "cases" have anything to do with it if the IFR stays as low as it is now and particularly among athletes or people likely to show up for a game? Wouldn't the better answer be to tell those who are vulnerable to stay at home and as a general rule advise those living with a high risk person to wear masks when at home and in their presence?

Logic and pragmatism will get you nowhere... May God have mercy on your soul.

It's up to the players...If I am the coach I gather them around and say "If you want to play out this season...you need to be incredibly disciplined for this semester. Is going to that party worth taking a chance it will bring an end to your season? How bad do you want it...for yourself, your teammates and your coaches?"

It can be done...
